Super Spring Quilt Retreat 2009

This is the first quilting class that I taught.  It has been one of my "bread and butter" classes over the years.  A fun, easy quilt as you go project.  Great for using leftover pieces of batting.  If hearts aren't your thing, you can use stars, leaves, circles or any simple shape.  A zig-zag capable machine is needed for this class.

  

A new method of a current technique!  I learned this method of paper piecing from national teacher Peggy Martin at the Empty Spools Seminars in Asilomar, CA last fall.  It is faster than "regular" paper piecing, and virtually foolproof.  If you've been frustrated by paper piecing in the past, you will love Peggy's method.  The spinning star is my own design.  

 

Bring an old-fashioned log cabin block into the future by breaking a few rules.  These addicting whimsical blocks are a great way to use bright fresh fabrics.  Use your new skills to make a wall hanging of lawless blocks, highlight a funky panel piece or combine the two for a fun quilt.

 

 

This lecture is guaranteed to teach you something that you didn't know!  Brenda has been teaching quilters for many years and has come up with a list of "tips" along with a few "tricks" that she's going to pass along to us.  Bring your pencils, because you'll want to remember everything that she says!

   

This fast and easy, soft edge applique quilt is a follow up to the popular Vintage Baby Quilt by YoYo Mama Designs.  This quilt is pieced and quilted all at once, the triangular design makes it look like a lot more work than it really is.

 

A classic block from the past creates a modern art-type quilt.  Create a landscape of your choice with old-fashioned prairie braid strip panels.  My quilt depicts the desert and red cliffs of Southern Utah.  Yours could be the Rocky Mountains, a rolling farmland, or even the seashore.  Although it looks complicated, it's actually very easy.

Time to take advantage of Machelle's great scrap offer!  She's going to bring all of her scraps and let you choose the ones you want for this pattern.  You can even use up your extra bobbins and thread because the color won't matter!  Bring 7 fat quarters and border fabric and you'll have everything you need to make the top.  Goes together quickly and teaches you to love scraps! 

Sharon's been at it again making darling projects for us to learn!  Takes only 1/2 yard cut and a fat quarter, it is a great way to use those large bold prints that we all love but don't usually use when piecing quilts!  Sharon personalized this simple pattern by adding a third fabric and a pocket.  Plan on getting one done and starting on a second before class is over!

I saw a version of this quilt in the newest Kaffe Fasset book and started thinking "What if...?"  I redesigned it in EQ, putting it on point and changing the proportions. 

This quick and easy quilt will showcase your favorite fabrics to perfection.  Sophisticated in batiks or Asian fabric, fun as an "I Spy", charming in vintage prints, or show off your collection of florals, patriotic prints or scraps.  Stripey sashing in the alternate blocks make this simple little quilt sparkle.  If you have Layer Cakes or Nickel Squares, this is the perfect quilt to use them.
